How to Set the Status of the Ref Check

Once a referee submits their responses, someone on your team still needs to review the answers and make a judgment call. Righteo makes this easy: after a reference check report comes in, you can review the referee's answers and mark the check as Passed, Failed, or Incomplete directly from the Candidate Profile. That status then feeds into the candidate's overall reference check percentage, so it's worth understanding how and where to set it.
Why Setting a Status Matters
Righteo calculates a percentage score for each candidate's reference check based on how consultants mark the individual referee reports. Marking a report as Passed, Failed, or Incomplete isn't just a label, it directly affects that score, which hiring teams often rely on when comparing candidates. Reviewing each report carefully before setting a status keeps that score accurate and meaningful.
How to Set the Status of the Ref Check
1. Open the Referees Tab on the Candidate Profile
Head to the Candidate Profile and select the Referees tab below the candidate's overview. Each referee added to the candidate is listed here, along with their reference type and current status (such as Submitted or Incomplete). Find the referee whose report you want to review and click the three dots on the right side of their row.
2. Select Preview Report
Clicking the three dots opens a small menu with several options, including View Report, Download Report, Edit Referee, and Delete. Choose Preview Report (or View Report) to open the full reference check report for that referee.
3. Review the Submitted Answers
The Referee Detail Report opens with the referee's contact details and their relationship to the candidate at the top, followed by every question from the reference check form and the rating or answer they gave. Read through each response carefully, paying attention to any lower ratings or comments that might need a closer look.
4. Set the Status of the Ref Check
At the top right of the report, click Passed, Failed, or Incomplete to reflect your assessment of the referee's answers. This selection is saved immediately and updates the status shown against that referee on the Candidate Profile.

Final Thoughts
Setting the status of a reference check is a small step, but it's the one that turns a submitted form into a usable result. By reviewing each referee's answers and marking the report as Passed, Failed, or Incomplete, you keep the candidate's overall reference check score accurate and give your hiring team a clear, consistent way to compare candidates at a glance.
